The Anthropologie order shipped yesterday! Can I tell you what a relief this is, can I just tell you?
It was a lot of work and the last month ended up being a case of "if it can go wrong, it will go wrong". But I will tell you this, I learned a heck of a lot about wholesale, about business and
most certainly about myself.

And this was a calm day... |

I purchased some IKEA bins ahead of time and they were really helpful for storing and moving things around. |

My mom and my husband did the barcoding and packaging last Saturday. |
This is 227 pieces. And to think the buyer originally was talking about 4000 total with pieces "to all doors"! Instead they're carrying my work as a web exclusive only and you can also see some of the pieces on models throughout the website.
Quite the accomplishment! And learning experience! It must feel great and the same time kind of strange that you are so close to being done! Did this experience change your goals for the future?
ReplyDeleteThanks Dora!
DeleteDid this experience changes my goals…hmmm? I feel like I'm still assimilating everything that happened but I know absolutely it will end up having an effect on what's next, thats for sure.

ReplyDeleteIf you want to share I would love to hear all your insights, how this negotiation help you grow (or not) as an artist and about the wholesale process, does it worth it?
Big hugs and kisses your friend from Venezuela :-) Niná
Thank you Nina!
DeleteI think as I get a little further out from the process, and take care of some other things that I let slide, I'll write about the process in more depth.
Wow! That is so impressive. Catch your breath because I bet a reorder is coming your way before you know it!
ReplyDeleteThank you Barbara!
DeleteCongratulations, hats off to you. What a great accomplishment for your business. I'm an aspiring jewelry designer and Im just curious, How long did they give you to fill the order if you don't mind sharing?
ReplyDeleteThanks Jackie!
DeleteI was first contacted by the buyer in July 2014 and they told me it would be a little while until they got back to me. Then samples were requested in October, I believe it was, and we went back and forth with numbers, prices and so on and the order was not completely finalized until just before Christmas. In January 50 additional pieces of another designed were added to the order and the deadline was pushed back just a little bit. So it was a lot of waiting and emailing and then a short burst of work at the end :-)
You know I thunk you are amazing Gen. I hope you now have some time to draw breath, reflect on your magnificent achievement and feel proud of your courage. Much love, Wendy
